Children who sometimes
avoid painting and drawing are drawn to the sculptural possibilities that clay
offers. Clay provides stimulating and
creative challenges enabling and encouraging young children to explore this
element. Clay invites physical manipulation, squeezing, patting, poking, or
piling it up produces an immediate and satisfying change to its shape and form.
As children work to solve problems with clay
they often collaborate, sharing their skills and knowledge with each other.
Younger children particularly enjoy using clay and delight in its sensory and
tactile qualities.
Children's understanding of Diwali celebrations began with making clay divas, they were introduced to various clay molding equipment, they used rolling pins etc and decorated with paint, glitter glue and sequins/gems.
