MOSQUE AND TEMPLE

UNDERSTANDING PLACES OF WORSHIP WITHIN COMMUNITIES WITH A CREATIVE AND IMAGINATIVE INTEREST.

Learning about the Indian Culture and respecting one another is all part of living in a Multi-cultural society.
One of our most popular workshops introduced children to 'places of worship', children are taught the differences between, church, mosques and Hindu temples. Recycling left over bits and pieces can fire the imagination, as well as helping the environment.  The variety of materials and the freedom to choose completely meets the all principles: breadth, depth, choice, challenge and enjoyment, coherence, relevance, progression and creativity and holistic.

Year 6 children were clearly highly engaged. There was lots of cooperative work and socialising happening. There was also many children happy to work alone on specific projects. The creativity demonstrated by the children as they solved practical design and construction problems was very high.

We get the children to learn about the different places of worship through practical workshops. Children make large scale models of mosques and temples, they learn about what they look like on the outside as well as what happens on the inside, these workshops tap into children's imaginations like never before, the workshop encourages team work, recognition and acceptance of other cultures and beliefs, respect for others and key to this particular workshop is how much fun they have in participating. Children are given the opportunity to use various media to produce their end results, they plan, draw, reproduce and together working in groups make their amazing architectural buildings. This if definitely a workshop must!

Year 3 at St Stephens made individual mosque and temple models,

Hindley Junior and Infants made larger models of mosques and temples.

They were very proud of their finished models.
