Parent Workshops

PARENT WORKSHOPS

Involving parents in schools is the key for great home school partnerships (see Early Years Workshops) We have organised many parent workshops which have enabled schools to build fantastic relationships with their children's parents and Grandparents.

At St Michael's we put together a dads workshop, and what a success, the dads helped their children make bird houses and bird feeders ready for the spring.

You would have had to be there to experience the atmosphere the workshop created!. We could not restrict it to dads only as many mums decided they wanted to wear hard hats and use hammers to build their bird feeders too and what a fantastic job they did!!

GILNOW PARENTS WORKSHOP
Parents were given resources to take home so they could do activities with their children. They joined weekly workshops to learn the importance of play in the Early Years. Parents made play dough, models from junk materials, picture games, phonic games and much much more

Opening doors to parents, grandparents, carers etc helps families understand what happens in school, the day to day running, how they can help at home, and being informed of why we do certain things for example  children learning through play. The results were amazing and parents felt very welcome, and soon showed us how important building such relationships were especially for new parents many of which were very young and needed guidance on school life.

Parents were given basic resources that would help their children's learning, the enthusiasm shown during these workshops was amazing and very rewarding and a must for schools. Language should never be a barrier for relationships between parents and schools therefore we must reach out to these vulnerable parents.
Parents at St Michaels also participated in our Silk Painting workshop
