Early Years Workshops

EARLY YEARS WORKSHOPS

It has always been my passion to work in the Early Years, especially building on the
Home School Partnerships.
Parents are a key part and studies show that great relationships with parent and families make a huge difference on children's learning.
My ability to speak English, Gujarati, Urdu, Hindi and Creole has enabled me to reach many parents/grandparents. It is not easy for parents from other cultures and backgrounds to come forward to help their children and their communities but I have been very lucky in the schools I have worked in, the parental involvement has been very positive which has helped both parties immensely.

The following workshops came under a scheme called ' MABD' Making a Big Difference.

The Valley School in Bolton

we planned on what the next 6 week sessions will involve, Parents wanted to develop their childrens story telling abilities and helped by making their own story book.

They were also asked if they wanted to do a display for the school which would inform other parents what they were doing each week and how their story book was developing, Parents used their home language to translate the book into Gujarati so others could share it.

Children soon became very comfortable with the weekly sessions and started bringing items in from home that linked in to the topics discussed each week.

Bishop Bridgeman C of E Primary School

Speaking and Listening was the focus for the children at Bishop Bridgeman, children were given lots of opportunities to interact with others using a wide variety of multi-sensory resources which include storytelling through role-play, mark making, drawing, modelling and playing games.

Children looking at the story sack of The Three Billy Goat Gruff

These children were acting out the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'

Parents were given access to resources they could take home and use with their children.

Gilnow C P School

Emphasis on strengthening Home school partnerships, encouraging parents to feel part of the school and that their involvement to be paramount in their children's learning. Introduction Packs were given to parents consisting of writing patterns, colouring sheets, phase 1 phonics and other activity sheets with pencils, colouring pencils and crayons etc.

A fantastic response to the sessions delivered, mums, dads, grandparents, carers etc attended the sessions, they were very positive and keen to join in. The sessions revealed how unaware parents were of what happens in schools and how important it is for them to be involved from the start.
They were shown activities that could be made at home, games they could play with their children, we talked about sharing bvooks and how to encourage their children to use their imagination in creating things out of junk modelling materials.
Parents made play dough and were taught the benefits of tactile, multi-sensory practical based activities.

Role play - an important part of Communication Language and Literacy, children acting out the story of The Three Little Pigs.

What could they make using items around the house, junk modelling an amazing activity for all ages.
